During the summer holidays we run a series of cookery classes for students who are completing their Duke Of Edinburgh’s Gold Residential Award. These are some of the photos of the fun we’ve been having so far this summer.
Each class included four nights’ accommodation in our onsite, 4* bed and breakfast and 5 days in the kitchen, creating an extensive variation of dishes that have been specifically designed so that they learn a varied selection of different techniques along the way. The students cook everything they eat throughout the week from healthy breakfast options to entertaining on a budget, cake baking and perfect pastry!
The class is designed to prepare the students for life away from home, whether it be that they are heading off to university or going on a gap year so as well as menu planning and cooking on a budget, students are taught:
The classes also go on a tour of our surrounding privately owned farmland, on which they even dig up potatoes for the roast dinner which they make for themselves and their Assessor on final evening.
Each student leaves having successfully completed their Duke Of Edinburgh Award with Recipe Folder and a Two Week Menu Plan.
